Departure and First Days

Packing up the art materials. Ready for studio work in Barcelona!

We are off! Easy, early arrival at the Redmond airport. It is such a pleasure to come into this little airport, especially when it’s almost empty! No stress or rushing. Even going through security is a breeze!

The first leg of the journey takes us on a quick hop to Seattle. This time we have a couple of hours between flights, thankfully. I’m guessing that the reason one of our bags didn’t arrive with us last time is that it was too much of a rush from our landing to the next take-off. Fingers crossed for this time!

Our layover in Amsterdam was longer than we’d had previously, but we passed the time resting patiently. It was fun to see the airport all decked out for Christmas.

Commercial, but sparkly.

Creative digital clock: a projected image of a worker paints the hands of the clock. Every minute, he erases and redraws the minute hand. Very photogenic for travellers!

In line for a snack, this display captivated me.

The coast of Spain! I don’t believe I ever sat on this side of the plane. It’s a new view!

And, success! All legs of our journey were uneventful, and our luggage arrived with us in Barcelona!

Our first evening we got settled in, took the first walk around our neighborhood. Familiar, friendly streets of Gràcia, but decked out for the holidays.

The next day was Bob’s birthday. We discovered a terrific restaurant in a neighborhood we hadn’t been in before.
We had a fabulous menú lunch: a 3 course meal, with beverage, all for 16.50! Such quality and value to be found here.

The carta in Catalan. We needed a little help from the waiter. Google translate doesn’t do well with food descriptions in this language!

Each course, illustrated. My dessert looks like a scoop of ice cream, but it’s fresh goat’s cheese, made like a fresh ricotta, with honey. A typical dessert we were told.
