Cuenca

From Madrid we took a train about an hour to this historic town in Castilla-LaMancha. None of us have been there before, and from what we researched we knew it would be a good three day stop.

It’s in a bit of a mountainous area, divided by gorges on each side by two rivers, the Huécar and Júcar. The rock formations are outstanding. Being such a steep place, hundreds of years ago people built tall, narrow houses called “casas colgadas”— “hanging houses”. They are literally clinging to the cliffs!

Our visit was inspired from learning about a modern abstract art museum that was created in the mid 1960’s. Bob and I had seen some work from the collection last fall in Barcelona, and decided we needed to visit on our next trip. And so we went!

Spring is a perfect time to visit here

More in Cuenca. So much art and history in such a small town!
