Girona

After the five day interlude in Barcelona, we took a train to Girona. This is the first time we’re exploring more of Catalyuna. It’s a short train trip, around an hour. We just stayed four nights, which in general we don’t prefer such short stays, but that’s how we planned it this time.

Our Apartment

It was a shame that we weren’t here longer. This was one of the best Airbnb places we’ve stayed in awhile. Small, but spotless, in a lovely spot and with the nicest hosts we’ve probably ever had. Montse even baked us a citrus pound cake on our last day. It was half of a large loaf, which we enjoyed till halfway through our stay in Tarragona!

Figueres and Dalí

When we told friends we were going to Girona, they encouraged us to go to the Dalí museum. Figueres is just about a half hour away, an easy train ride, so we did. I’ve never been a fan of Dalí, but really it was just that his surrealism never grabbed me enough to learn more about him or his art. Going to the museum fixes that and it’s a crazy place that anyone would be entertained by.

Day Trip to Cadaqués

We rented a car in Girona for four days, to drive from there to Tarragona. We took advantage of the car by going to the coastal village of Cadaqués. Dalí and Gala lived most of the time here, and their house is a museum. Unfortunately it was closed for the season, and we just strolled around the outside. We got enough of a feeling for the inspiration Dalí got from this place, after we saw his work in Figueres the day before.

On our way there, we stopped in the village of Castelló de Empúries. A medieval village, quiet on a winter weekday morning, but worth a walk around.

Drive with us on the twisty coastal road to Cadaqués!
