Videos…holidays in sights and sounds

From the moment we arrived in Barcelona through to Three Kings, or Festes de Los Reyes, on January 6, the city was alive with so many sights and sounds. I put together some rough (I’m no videographer!) videos to capture some fun moments.

They are posted to YouTube, and links are below brief descriptions.

The Light Show at Hospital San Pau

Robert tipped us off two years ago that they put on an amazing light show at the complex that is a former hospital that is now mostly restored and is a museum, a UNESCO heritage site. When watching the video, keep in mind these impressive buildings were built from 1901–1930 in the Modernista style. The most amazing thing is that it was designed and built to service the poor of Barcelona! It operated as a hospital until 2008, when a new facility was built. By 2014 it re-opened as a museum. You’ll notice that the room we walked into with the hanging light balls is not fully restored.

Music on the Streets

The city was alive with music everywhere. As I walked down the Passeig de Gràcia one evening, this band attracted quite a crowd. What was fun was the two red motorcycles with sidecars that drove up right in front of me, letting out their passengers at the end of a tour!

A full program of music for about two weeks happened on the Plaça Catalyuna. The massive El Corte Ingles department store had a very cool light show on their façade.
