Barcelona: week two
It was full and busy and fun and relaxing, all at the same time! Getting more familiar with this city all the time. We were far enough from Roser’s studio this time that Bob “commuted” on the Metro, taking the Blue line from our close stop, Hospital Clínic two stops to Verdeguer. Each day, he’d come back and say how comfortable the route was. A couple of times I walked the 30 minutes to meet him in the Gràcia neighborhood somewhere. For lunch one day, and the last day to bring some things to store in the studio while we are away.
Sunday was the festival of Sant Jordi, patron saint of Barcelona. The tradition on this day is that roses and books are given—historically, a man gives a woman a rose, and a woman gives a man a book. But nowadays, the sex or orientation of a person doesn’t matter: the giving of the items is for whomever you want! What a cool tradition! Beginning Friday, there were books and roses for sale on the streets everywhere. Culminating on the actual feast day, April 23, when the giant book fair happened all over the city. The biggest place was on the Passeig de Gràcia, and this year it was back in full force after three years of pandemic. And oh my— what a scene!
